In this most inclusive scenario, FTC arrives at school and teaches circus skills to all students during regularly scheduled Physical Education period (or mutually agreed upon schedule). Curriculum is age appropriate with younger students juggling scarves and balancing feathers while older students build human pyramids, spin Chinese yo-yos and create clown routines. The program concludes with a performance given by the upper grades that the rest of the school watches. An additional evening show for the community is also an option. The All-School Residency typically takes 2 school weeks M-F.
Partial School Residency
In this scenario, school administration offers circus arts only to one grade level or to a few grades. FTC arrives at school and teaches circus skills to a predetermined portion of the student body during their regularly scheduled Physical Education period and a second period. Again, curriculum is age appropriate. The program concludes with a performance given by all participating students that the rest of the school watches. An additional evening show for the community is also possible. The Partial School Residency typically takes 2 school weeks M-F.
After School Residency
In this scenario, learning circus arts is offered to all students and given only to those who are interested and available. FTC provides circus arts instruction after school to those students who register. To spark interest and enthusiasm, a Circus Assembly is highly recommended. The After School Residency typically lasts from 2 to 8 school weeks M-F. The After School Residency can be merged with either of the above options.
Add an Assembly
On the Monday of the first week of the Residency, FTC could provide a 40-minute assembly to introduce the circus professionals who will be teaching the circus arts. The Assembly creates excitement about the upcoming program and is especially useful when the circus arts program is elective (such as in the case of the After School Residency). FTC performance will include a number of different circus arts disciplines that will be taught during the residency. Assembly will also include a Question & Answer period for students to learn more about the instructors and the program.
Custom Built Residency
We can tailor a Residency to address the specific needs of your school. To that end, we can combine either the All-School Residency or Partial School Residency with the After School Residency to provide more opportunities for students to experience the circus arts.
Adult Participation
Adult volunteers are an integral part of any FTC Residency. Depending on the scope of the Residency, before circus artists arrive, there is often a need for adults to build equipment (stilts, rolla bollas, tightwires, for example) or props for the Residency. (FTC provides materials list and assembly instructions.) During the Residency, there is an option for parents to work with a child on Partner Acrobatics. Parent volunteers will work closely with school faculty members to help with costumes, sets, props, concessions, sound and logistics, associated with the final performance. |
